Several editions available, different prices.
This program is a vocabulary learning tool based on inductive thinking, no flashcard trainer as such. It teaches based on the patented WATS (Words And Their Stories) system.
This WATS system presents 5 "clues" for each word in a kind of quiz tutorial, featuring the parts of speech, origin of word, meaning, and pronunciation. In this tutorial, the student is required to apply inductive thinking skills in order to interiorize the meaning of the target word. After the tutorial, a percentage score is displayed.
The amount of vocabulary presented by this application is limited, and words are grouped in five sections: roots & prefixes, mythical and historial allusions, words commonly confused, foreign words, ans strange & unusual words. A printable score report for an overall view of all five sections is available.
Review phase can be constrained to those words the student scored 70% or lower.

GreekFlash Pro 2.0

PPP--

GreekFlash Pro screenshot
  by Paradigm Software 1998
Shareware (from $35), 2.2 MB or 17.9 MB (with audio files)

A nice application devised for students of ancient Greek.

Flashcard format: Two-sided, one sound file per flashcard, word category (part of speech) allocation, frequency tag, chapter tag (these two fields to be used in relation to a given book), "level of memory". One font for each side.
Edit mode: Yes.
Training: User is shown foreign word / English word and has to report whether he or she knows it.
Training options: Reverse direction of questions. Timing.
Selective learning: By frequency (in a given book), by part of speech, by chapter (of a given book), by "level of memory". This latter option yields a 3-level Leitner system in which a flashcard is promoted to the next level when it is answered correctly three times in a row.
Extras: This software includes over 2000 Greek words and was developed as a complement to William D. Mounce's "Basics of Biblical Greek", Warren Trenchard's "Complete Vocabulary Guide to the Greek New Testament", and Cullen and J. Lyle Story's "Greek to Me". Audio files pertaining to these words can be downloaded separately or with the installation package. Statistics. Printing. Uninstall facility.
