| Pauker 3.1 (Geiger) German interface |
by Andreas
Geiger Shareware ~10 Euros, pauk3.exe, 633 kB Fancy interface. One-line text only :-( Special characters dock (ANSI). Simple edit mode with no shortcuts -- mouse is a must :-(. Print list. Stats (percentage of cards failed once/twice/three times). Fault tolerance: can ignore blank spaces and parentheses, can tell words you typed without a blank space in between. No Leitner system :-( |

| Pauker 1.1 (Standke) German & English interface |
by Ronny Standke Freeware (open source). Runs on Windows (95 and later), Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris, OS/2, provided a suitable Java Runtime Environment is installed. Flashcard style: Two sides, multiple-line text, one font for each flashcard side. Edition: Flipping the cards. Import (CVS, SSV and TSV). Unicode is supported. Training: 6-step Leitner system, plus an Unlearned batch and Ultra-shortterm-memory and short-term memory batches. The latter are intended for slideshows, not for training. They make use of timers (in s and min, respectively). Simple training options (newest/oldest cards first, random order). Usability: Mouse is a must :-(. Having to install the Java RE may be an obstacle for novice users. |

by Artyom Lukanin Shareware ($20) VB. 2.42 MB Combined English, Russian, and German interface. Flashcard format: two text fields (text/translation) plus a media file (sound, video, etc.) and a phonetic transcription on each flashcard. Multiple line text, but window cannot be maximized. Choose font, font encoding and color for each text field. File format is *.mdb. Training: (1) Q&A. Pops up every now and then and asks you a word. Words you regard as known can be moved to the section of "learned" vocabulary. (2) Slideshow. -- Direction of questions can be reversed. Timing. Edit mode: No card list. Extras: String inversion Hebrew, etc. Sort facility. Comfortable pop-up for word search mode (press Ctrl+Ins+Ins from any external program). "Always on top" option. Usability: some shortcuts (user input during training, browsing words in search & slideshow), but buttons on main window require mouse clicks. Non-standard interface (no menu bar). |
