Flashcard format: (1) "Lessons": flashcards consist of foll. fields: plain text Q&A (one-line only :-(, although very long), a single picture, a single :-( sound file (recorder included), an annotation, and a remark field.
(2) "Stories": picture slideshow with sounds attached.
Training modes: (1) typical flashcard training. Totalling 20 question types, it goes much farther than "question inversion" of two-sided flashcards: the content of the question can come from virtually any of the flashcard fields.
Further, (2) "look & hear" (slideshow of a lesson) and (3) watching a "story".
Assessment (in "Lessons" mode): this program uses a checking algorithm. According to question type, passive and active knowledge, pronunciation, grammar knowledge are scored. No selective learning :-(
Fault tolerance: Three "kinds of teachers" set the rigor level for the scoring (test on speed, ignore missing articles, etc.).
Rich import function: get words from foreign text file or from "translated table" (plain text glossary). Optimistic export function ("Snoop translations" from given XTrainer file).
More: virtual keyboard, for input foreign characters. Search function.
Bugs: Does not work under NT (numerous access violations).
On CDs, there are almost 20 vocabulary files available for download. <xtr> files are compiled files.
